Denise Domergue

Founder & Creative Director

Denise is the Founder and Creative Director of Made Out of What. A long career  (1976-2014) as a conservator of contemporary art (Director, Conservation of Paintings, Ltd. and Fellow, American Institute for Conservation) fed her interest in alternative approaches to creative pursuits.  A  writer and an independent curator, she authored  Artists Design Furniture (1984, Abrams Books) and was Los Angeles editor of Metropolitan Home Magazine (1989-1994). She wrote numerous catalog essays and articles for magazines besides Met Home such   as House & Garden, Arts+Architecture, City Magazine (Paris), and more. Since 2014, she has devoted her energies to founding and expanding MOoW: writing, editing, curating international exhibitions, and executive producing  short documentary videos.

Design & Content Editor

Matt is a visual artist, creating abstract/organic, soft sculpture and large scale installations in eye-popping colors and oddly-appealing textures who brings a multitude of creative skills to MOoW. He has shown his work extensively in the DC metro area as well as in California where he currently lives and works. He recently earned his MFA at Otis College of Art & Design, graduating with an Academic Excellence award in 2019.

In 2016 Hollis was awarded an Artist Fellowship Grant from the D.C. Commission of Arts & Humanities. In 2015 he was 1 of of 3 artists chosen to travel to France for an artistic research trip with Transformer gallery sponsored by the Sister Cities Grant from the DCCAH. 

Bev-Sue Powers

Strategy & Platform Development:

Bev-Sue has 30-plus years’ experience in strategizing & leading all aspects of implementing enterprise-wide systems, communications, & process changes involving new technologies. Most of the US-based projects were multicultural & global in nature. Her comfort zone is bringing new concepts, tools, processes, & products into physical reality. She's comfortably worked in multiple corporate environments, from Fortune 500 public corporations (Disney, Boeing, GE, Oracle (Portal acquisition), to mid-size public & privately held companies (RAND, Herbalife, Teleflora, Optimist) & various startups (YesYouCan!, TranSigma Consulting, Nextlink, Evolution Tools, & others).

 Eliza is a writer and researcher within the realm of sustainability, and was an essential contributor to the 2020 MOoW quarterly magazines. Having worked as editor of SARDIN, an eco-conscious e-commerce platform, she also hosted and produced a podcast series. The breadth of Eliza’ journalistic work extends past the fashion world, into wider issues of environmental responsibility. Eliza lives and works in Berlin, where her perceptive is profoundly informed by the diverse aesthetics, cultures, and languages of the city.

Kayla Sweet Newhouse

Video Producer

Kayla was co-director in charge of strategy, operations and the web presence for MOoW from 2016 through 2019. She is responsible for filming, directing, and producing the short documentary Let’s Talk Trash films for MOoW. “Let’s Talk Trash with Faiza Hajji” was selected for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival and the Sonoma International Film Festival in 2019. She is pursuing a career as a ceramic artist, with a well-received solo exhibition at the Helms Bakery design center in Culver City, and  group  exhibitions in Tokyo, and  Gstaad  among them. Since 2019, she has been residing in Paris and remains affiliated with MOoW as videographer and correspondent.

  • Cindy Ojeda, Secretary. Director of Finance at Art Division since 2010, a non-profit organization that offers in-depth training to under-served Los Angeles youth dedicated to a career in the visual arts. Formerly, Project Manager at Track 16 Gallery/Smart Art Press in Santa Monica from 1999-2009.

  • Nick Arciero, Artist, volunteer faculty member at Art Division, and lead strategist for design infrastructure and studio relations  for Disney Streaming

  • Corinne Chaix, French-born, Los Angeles-based artist who has exhibited internationally;  pioneer in visual effects and digital creation; confirmed ocean lover.

  • Dianna Cohen, CEO and Co-Founder of Plastic Pollution Coalition; passionate advocate against plastic pollution; L.A.-based visual artist who has exhibited internationally

  • Anna Cummins, Global Strategy Director and Co-Founder with Dr.Marcus Eriksen in 2009 of the 5 Gyres Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to research and raising awareness through science, education and adventure

  • Shelley Goldstein, International Speaking Coach and Brand Strategist; Event Producer for Pando Days, an environmental nonprofit that brings together schools, business and government to create solutions for LA County's sustainability plan

  • Linda Hooper, Executive Director of The Samburu Project (TSP), a non-profit organization based in California, focused on drilling wells in the Samburu District of Kenya to provide water and enable self-sufficiency

  • Maryna Hrushetska, Art advisor, creative consultant, and writer. Former museum director & curator, Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles.

  • Maria Cecilia Loschiavo, Professor of Design, School of Architecture & Urbanism, University of São Paulo, Brazil

  • Anne-Marie Martin, Actress, writer, artist, equestrian; supporter of transforming trash into  beauty and utility
